Delta police issued bylaw tickets Saturday night after reports of a party involving young adults surfaced on social media.

Responding to the Facebook post, DPD public affairs coordinator Cris Leykauf said an officer working Saturday night spotted the post and sent officers into the nature reserve to investigate.

“They found four individuals congregating inside the park and served all four bylaw tickets for being in a park after dusk,” said Leykauf. “The four were also warned about social gatherings during a pandemic. Officers generated file #20-7377 if anyone has any further questions re this matter.

“In this case the matter was not dispatched to DPD but we will be following up - there's a steep learning curve for everyone on how to appropriately handle these type of issues. However, we don't encourage anyone to report concerns via social media typically as our officers don't monitor sites regularly.

And to clarify - we understand the poster of course did try and report this to the non-emergency line first. That was the appropriate action and Delta Police will be looking into the matter further with E-COMM.”
