A registered sex offender in Vancouver is back behind bars after allegedly groping two women this month in South Vancouver.

Daniel Ghoukassian, 32, has been charged with one count of sexual assault concerning what police are calling a disturbing incident – a woman was grabbed from behind Oct. 19 near Main Street and 41st Avenue.

A second similar alleged act of groping occurred just three days earlier, though charges have yet to be laid, said Cst. Tania Visintin of the Vancouver Police Department.

In both cases, the assaults occurred in broad daylight and the victims fled the scene to call 911.

“The response from the public has been phenomenal,” explained Visintin, about calls flooding into the tip line to help identify Ghoukassian from surveillance footage released by police.

In 2014, Ghoukassian was charged and convicted for three violent sexual attacks on strangers in the Oakridge area, according to police.

He remains in police custody.
