Loblaw Companies Limited says that employees working at Shoppers Drug Mart stores in Vancouver and Surrey have tested positive for COVID-19.

On Oct. 21, the company confirmed that one of its staff members tested positive on a presumptive test for COVID-19 who works at a Shoppers Drug Mart located at 370 East Broadway in Vancouver. The last day the employee worked was Oct. 8.

Loblaw says an employee who works at the Shoppers Drug Mart located at 12830 96th Ave in Surrey has also tested positive on a presumptive test for the virus. The last day the employee worked was Oct.9.

This is the second employee that has tested positive for the virus at the Surrey Shoppers Drug Mart this week. Yesterday, the company announced that an employee tested positive for the virus at the Surrey store. The last day the employee worked was Oct.14.

Loblaw regularly updates its COVID-19 page with all positive COVID-19 cases in its stores, by province, in the last 15 days. However, it will not release any personal information about employees.

COVID-19 is spread by respiratory droplets when a person who is sick coughs or sneezes. It can also be spread when a healthy person touches an object or surface (e.g. a doorknob or a table) with the virus on it and then touches their mouth, nose or eyes before washing their hands. Most people who get COVID-19 have only mild disease, but a few people can get very sick and may need to go to the hospital. The symptoms of COVID-19 may include fatigue, loss of appetite, fever, cough, sore throat, runny nose, loss of smell and/or diarrhea.

If you visited either of the affected locations and believe you may have been infected, it is recommended you self-isolate and monitor for symptoms. If you have symptoms, testing is available - and has been expanded recently in both the Vancouver Coastal Health and Fraser Health regions.
