Grass fire burning in Kamloops mapped at 20 hectares

The grass fire is now listed at 20 hectares, according to a tweet from the B.C. Wildfire Service.

Forty-nine firefighters, air tankers, one helicopter and fire investigators are responding to the blaze.

No structures are under immediate threat right now.

The grass fire burning on Shuswap Road is estimated to be five hectares in size, according to the B.C. Wildfire Service.

Information officer Marla Catherall says the fire is not in Kamloops Fire Rescue jurisdiction but in BCWS's.

"We have 29 personnel and air support responding," she says.

12:35 p.m

B.C. Wildfire Service crews are en route to help with the grass fire, fire information officer Marla Catherall tells KamloopsMatters.

She says BWS is also providing air support.

"We're waiting on more info."

Shuswap Road is closed from Lafarge west to the Yellowhead Highway until further notice, according to Kamloops RCMP.

"No traffic except emergency vehicles are allowed in this area," says Cpl. Jodi Shelkie in an email.

She says no structures have been damaged and no injuries have been reported from this grass fire.

KFR are currently on scene.

Crews are en route to a fire in the 800 block of Shuswap Road.

Kamloops Fire Rescue says B.C. Wildfire Service is on standby.
