Vancouver Police report that a suspect is in custody after they allegedly assaulted two people in Mount Pleasant on Tuesday night.

VPD Spokesperson Sergeant Aaron Roed told Vancouver Is Awesome in a phone call that officers did attend an emergency near East Broadway and St. George Street just before 7 p.m. He adds that a 40-year old Vancouver resident was taken into custody, and that he may face charges of impaired driving and assault.

Two victims were rushed to a local hospital and both have since been released.

VPD cannot provide any further information as the incident is still under investigation.

VPD note that officers were very busy Tuesday night, as they responded to multiple high priority 9-1-1 calls over a four-hour period. They note that officers typically respond to about 800 calls for service each day.

Earlier on Tuesday, officers closed down one lane of traffic on Lions Gate Bridge to conduct a thorough marine search for a police incident on the bridge. Following that, protestors blocked the intersection of Main Street and Hastings Street in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside. During the protest, officers were called when a witness saw a man place a black gun into a backpack a short distance away from Expo Boulevard and Griffiths Way. They report that officers located the man and recovered a replica Smith and Wesson handgun with clip, which the owner relinquished.

Anyone who witnesses a criminal act or suspicious activity is asked to call 9-1-1.
