Bravely exploring the nation in search of the finest facilities, the Cintas company puts together this annual recognition of the finest places to drop the kids off at the pool coast to coast. Then, the washroom-using public can have their say by voting for their favourite finalist.

After taking submissions from everyday users, Canada's Best Restroom has now revealed the final five for 2021, which includes one Metro Vancouver contender.

The washroom that could soon make Surrey-ites flush with civic pride is a new modular design created by a Vancouver architecture firm and installed in the City of Surrey's Maple Green and Chimney Heights parks, with plans to build them in additional parks.

"The intent for the park washroom was to create a playful, durable, safe facility that works well within the City of Surrey’s park contexts," explains Canada's Best Restroom 2021.  "The washroom was designed to be universally accessible, hands-free with no-touch fixtures and configured for solar power. It also features public art panels on all four sides of the structure. The design employs a distinct form, strong colours and unique use of materials."

The washroom, done by JIM Architecture, has been featured on the ArchDaily site

The Surrey park restroom is the only one in B.C. among the final five. The other contenders are Borden Park in Edmonton; Sweet Market Esso Station in Red Deer, AB; The ROOFTOP in Calgary; and the Toronto Zoo.

Voting is open until July 9. Don't let your chance to have your say in restroom excellence go down the drain.
