Vancouver International Airport has been ranked the best airport in North America for the 11th year in row by the Skytrax World Airport Awards.

Since 1999, the World Airport Awards have recognized the top airports across the globe based on customer satisfaction. It is considered a quality benchmark for the world airport industry, assessing customer service and facilities across 550 airports. The winners are based on votes from customers, which underlines the brand as the 'Passenger's Choice Awards.'

Singapore Changi Airport claimed the top spot in this year's global ranking. Of course, the top honour isn't a surprise to many - this is the beautiful airport's eighth year in the first place.

Tokyo Haneda followed Singapore in second, with Hamad International Airport Doha placing third. South Korea's Incheon International Airport placed fourth, and Germany's Munich Airport came fifth.

Mr Edward Plaisted, CEO of Skytrax said, “For Singapore Changi Airport to be voted the World’s Best Airport title for eight consecutive years is a truly remarkable achievement and demonstrates a simply fantastic level of consistency. Singapore Changi Airport remains a very popular choice with customers and delights at nearly all points in the airport journey, and it is this attention to detail that proves so popular."

"This year also marks the first time that customers have been able to recognize Jewel Changi Airport, a multi-dimensional destination filled with inspiring attractions, unique retail and dining concepts. The annual survey and awards finalization was all completed this year in March, but due to Covid-19 the awards event scheduled for April 1 in Paris were cancelled. Having deferred the award announcements for nearly six weeks, we felt it was now right to try and bring some cheer into the airport industry in these difficult times."

Vancouver International Airport narrowly missed the top ten, placing thirteenth. With this in mind, it placed far higher than any other Canadian airport on the list. Toronto Pearson Airport placed 42nd, while Montreal Pierre Elliot Trudeau airport came 57th. However, Toronto Pearson International Airport did claim the top spot for airports with 50 to 60 million passengers annually. Vancouver International Airport was named the best airport with 20 to 30 million passengers.

The Fairmont Vancouver Airport was named the best airport hotel in North America, too.

Tokyo Haneda Airport was awarded the best airport with over 70 million passengers, while Singapore Changi Airport claimed the top spot among airports with 60 to 70 million.
