Vancouver Police have arrested two men in connection to a shooting Tuesday evening on Vancouver’s west side, where a 42-year-old man was targeted.

“This was a reckless act in a heavily populated area, very early in the evening,” says Constable Tania Visintin, VPD. “It’s frightening for the neighbourhood and the consequences could have been far worse. This type of crime is not welcome in Vancouver.”

In a release, police say the shooting happened near West 29th Avenue and Dunbar Street at about 5:45 p.m. on Oct. 7. Police responded after several 9-1-1 calls reported shots being fired.

The man who was targeted was carrying a baby in a car seat. He was accompanied by a woman and a three-year-old child. After the man was shot, the suspects fled in a car.

The suspects subsequently collided with a parked vehicle and then fled on foot.

“This was an extremely dynamic and challenging call,” adds Visintin. “The VPD response was swift and effective. Officers apprehended the suspects a short distance away, while specially-trained Emergency Response Team medics applied first aid until paramedics arrived.”

The investigation is ongoing and police will be at the site of the shooting today to investigate further. The victim was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspects are in custody.

Anyone with information or dashcam footage from last night between 4:30 and 6:30 p.m. in the area of 29th Ave and Dunbar and West 29th Ave from Dunbar to Alma is asked to call investigators at 604-717-2541.
