Vancouver police say they shut down a private party at a restaurant downtown that had around 100 people in attendance.

At around 11 p.m. on New Year's Eve, Vancouver Police officers responded to a complaint regarding a restaurant near Granville and Davie streets that was hosting a private, closed-door party, explains a news release from the VPD.

Officers estimate that approximately 100 people were in attendance, and food and alcohol were being served. However, Vancouver bars and restaurants were prohibited from serving alcohol after 8 p.m. on New Year Year's Eve.

The owner/organizer was issued a violation ticket for $2,300 and the party was shut down by police.

Vancouver police deployed extra officers in Vancouver's entertainment district on New Year's Eve, and they responded to 34 calls related to the ‘Gathering and Events’ order from the Provincial Health Officer.

Four tickets, totalling $2,300 each, were issued to event organizers.

Anti-mask demonstrators gathered outside the Vancouver Art Gallery to protest the government-imposed restrictions related to COVID-19 last night, too. A short while after at 11:30 p.m., the VPD says officers responded to the area for a protestor who was climbing on top of one of the statues on site.

While police were escorting the individual off the property, she allegedly bit one of the officers. The woman was charged with assaulting a police officer.
