Vancouver police move in, arrest protesters near Port of Vancouver (PHOTOS)

The intersection re-opened about 24 hours after protesters shut it down Monday afternoon.

Vancouver police moved in just after noon Tuesday to remove protesters from the intersection of East Hastings and Clark Drive.

The protest shut down the busy intersection, which is also an entry point for the Port of Vancouver, Monday afternoon and remained overnight. Vancouver police said six people were arrested Tuesday afternoon for "refusing to abide by a B.C. Supreme Court order, prohibiting the blockage of the main entrance to the Port Vancouver."

Demonstrators blocked three access points at the Port of Vancouver over several days earlier this month, until the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority got an injunction in B.C. Supreme Court to restore access to the port. Forty-three people were arrested at that time.

The first protest started Thursday, Feb. 6 hours after RCMP officers near Houston, B.C. moved in to enforce a court injunction ordering members of the Wet’suwet’en and supporters remove a blockade stopping access to a natural gas pipeline work site.

Vancouver police re-opened the intersection just before 2 p.m.
