A rally for Palestine drew hundreds of people to Downtown Vancouver Wednesday evening that called for an end to violence in Israel.

The "Save Sheikh Jarrah" rally commenced at 5 p.m. at the Vancouver Art Gallery. Demonstrators called for a free Palestine and an end to the violence in Sheikh Jarrah - a Palestinian neighbourhood in occupied East Jerusalem.

People held signs that read "stop [the] massacre of Palestinian people," "to stand with Palestine is to stand with humanity," "end illegal occupation" and "free Palestine."

On Saturday (May 15) at 2 p.m., demonstrations will gather in the CBC Plaza at 700 Hamilton Street to commemorate Nakba 73 and the ongoing resistance. The rally will commemorate the loss experienced by Palestinians in 1948 when hundreds of thousands of people were displaced from their homes.

Numerous Metro Vancouverites continue to show support for the Palestinians on social media, with many people sharing personal stories.
