Katheryn Winnick tells the story of an epic hike near Vancouver.

While some Hollywood stars take it easy while shooting in Vancouver, Katheryn Winnick's brother convinced her to do some serious hiking.

Winnick, known for her work in Vikings and Wu Assassins (which often have physically demanding scenes), spent months in Vancouver recently to shoot her new series, Big Sky. She brought her family out from Toronto at one point and her brother decided to go on an adventure and cajoled Winnick to come along.

"He took us on this hike," she told Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest on their TV show this week. "I couldn't believe it, it wasn't even a hike, it was the middle of nowhere off the beaten path."

Her brother took them on the four-hour journey, which Winnick says included ropes and waterfalls as they traversed bear country. It ended in trail-mix and wine.

She also talks with Ripa about the Grouse Grind; both have done the famous hike.

"There's people that are like, I'm not kidding you, in their 60s that are doing this in record speed," she says of her fellow hikers on the Grouse Grind.
