Three officers with the Vancouver Police Department were injured during the incident and one was sent to hospital with significant injury.

Reports of a multiple-person assault at a Vancouver beach yesterday evening lead to a VPD officer being sent to the hospital.

The Vancouver Police Department’s beach patrol officers responded to a large fight and a possible assault involving 10 people just before 7 p.m. at English Bay explains Sgt. Steve Addison with the VPD.

“The officers tried to disperse the crowd, but one of the aggressors refused to leave,” Addison said. “He became hostile, began causing a disturbance, assaulted at least one of our officers, and resisted arrest.”

Addison says a large and hostile crowd formed around the officers and additional officers were called to keep the crowd back.

Three officers were hurt during the incident and one was taken to hospital with a “significant injury.”

The suspect, a North Vancouver man in his 20s, was arrested and taken to jail. Multiple charges will be recommended.
