While you won't want to ditch your umbrella just yet, the upcoming forecast looks decidedly promising.

The Vancouver weather forecast calls for a lengthy stretch of sunshine following a couple of showers to kick off the weekend.

Starting on Friday, Feb. 5, however, the forecast calls for a few showers throughout the day followed by periods of rain at night. After this, Saturday's forecast calls for a 40 per cent chance of showers during the day followed by cloudy periods at night.

On Sunday, Vancouverites are expected to see a mix of sun and cloud with a high of 6°C during the day and a chilly low of -1°C at night. Monday is also expected to see a mix of sun and clouds during the day and a slightly cooler low of -2°C overnight.

On Tuesday, the forecast calls for bright sunshine in Vancouver, but the clear skies allow for a frigid overnight low of -5°C. The colder trend continues into Wednesday, when the forecast calls for a mix of sun and cloud during the day and an overnight low of -4°C.

While Vancouverites have enjoyed a relatively mild winter so far, Environment Canada cautions that we aren't out of the woods yet.

In a recent interview, Environment Canada Meteorologist Doug Lundquist told Vancouver Is Awesome that "It's halfway through winter--so we have another half to go through.

"And we can get snow--definitely in the latter part of January, February and sometimes March."

Lundquist stresses that snow events are far less likely heading into spring, but they can't be ruled out entirely. That said, he notes that the La Niña pattern is still affecting weather in the region, which could mean temperatures will dip a bit below average.
