Another arrest has been made in connection with luggage thefts at Vancouver International Airport.

On Aug. 2, Richmond RCMP arrested Vancouver resident Miriam Tremblay, 26, for an alleged series of luggage thefts that took place between July 12 and Aug. 2, all in YVR’s domestic terminal.

And on Aug. 26, B.C. prosecution service approved seven charges against Tremblay.

These charges fall under Sec. 348(b) of Canada’s criminal code. Each charge relates to theft under $5,000.

Tremblay’s arrest was made as part of the Mounties on-going investigation into luggage thefts at the airport.

“Richmond RCMP YVR detachment is committed to ensuring the safety and security of travellers to Vancouver International Airport,” said Sgt. Ross Lundie, operations NCO of the YVR detachment.

“Our officers, especially those from our Airport Crime Unit, have been steadfast in gathering evidence to move this case forward,” Lundie added.

Tremblay’s arrest follows the Jul. 26 arrest of a man on accounts of luggage theft in the airport’s domestic terminal. He was apprehended after he returned to the airport a week after the original theft, which was caught on surveillance.

On April 23, a 60-year-old foreign national, Miriam Fajardo, was charged with six counts of theft under $5,000, all relating to incidents that happened in or near to YVR between March 2 and April 19 of this year. Fajardo's arrest was made following an investigation by Richmond RCMP's YVR detachment, which deployed plainclothes teams to conduct surveillance on organized crime. Fajardo is believed to be part of a larger organized theft group that travels from airport to airport.

And in 2017, a 46-year-old man was arrested for a spree of luggage stealing from the domestic arrivals carousels at YVR.
