A Metro Vancouver man posed as an Uber driver in order to sexually assault at least one woman, police have now confirmed.

Langley resident Hirdeypal Batth, 24, was charged with sexual assault and forcible confinement for an Aug. 26 incident near Oak Street and King Edward Avenue.

“It is believed Batth had posed as the victim’s Uber driver with his white 2020 Land Rover,” said Cst. Tania Visintin, of the Vancouver Police Department.

Police say it is likely that Batth targeted other women.

“Investigators are expanding their focus to look at crimes that occurred outside of Vancouver and are urging any other victims to please come forward,” said Visintin.

In 2017, Batth was convicted of sexually assaulting a victim with similarities in that case to the current investigation, she added.

He will remain in police custody until his next court appearance.
