Goonies Never Say Die!

Unless they're Chester Copperpot. Or Ray Brower. (They had bad luck.)

But three lucky VIA readers could have some much better luck this Friday at midnight, as everyone's favourite East Vancouver movie house, the Rio Theatre, is heading up an awesome Corey Feldman double bill (it's not being advertised as such, that's all me) featuring 1980s classics The Goonies and Stand By Me.

Corey Feldman playing Vancouver in 2007. It was several shades of awesome. Among other things.

The sweet giveaway also includes an appearance by ... Fratellis! No, not those Fratellis, the insanely fantastic Italian bakery on Commercial!

It's good enough (for me). And that ought to be good enough (for you).

See, Mama Fratelli and her two delinquent sons are these really bad guys who chase the Goonies through a maze of underground caves and booby traps on the way to finding One Eyed Willy's treasure so they can get the rich stuff and save the Goondocks and ... bottom line is every time I walk by Fratelli Bakery I smile and my inner 8-year old get giggly because it makes me think of one of my favourite movies. That is, of course, on the rare occasion I actually just walk by as opposed to pop in for a melt-in-your-mouth canoli...

In addition to three double passes to see The Goonies and Stand By Me, the winners will also receive a $15 gift certificate to the Fratelli Bakery! (Chunk would totally approve of this giveaway.)

If you've never been to a midnight screening at The Rio you're missing out. It's a total blast and if you go in costume, you pay $8 instead of $10 for the double bill. There are tons of prizes and this Friday, the wonderful people at the Fratelli Bakery are even tossing in a special prize to whomever is judged as having the best costume.

As excited as I am about seeing The Goonies for the hundredth time I am actually more excited about seeing Stand By Me, which I have never seen on the big screen. (For the record, this is why independently operated cinemas rock - they give you the opportunity to see and enjoy old movies on the big screen, which is exactly where they should be.)

Tell me which movie you're more excited about and why and you could win one of three double passes AND a $15 gift certificate to the Fratelli Bakery. All you have to do is truffle-shuffle down to the comments section and leave one there.

Contest closes at noon on Friday, April 16th. Winners will be contacted by email. Good luck!
