Man fatally shot in Abbotsford home identified by police

He was 41 years old.

A man who was fatally shot in Abbotsford has been identified by the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team as 41-year-old Chad Colivas.

Police responded to a Latimer Street home at about 9:52 p.m. on Monday and found a man suffering a gunshot wound.

Colivas died at the scene.

“Lifesaving medical intervention was performed on scene by first responders, but unfortunately, the man succumbed to his injuries,” says Const. Paul Walker.

IHIT spokesperson Detective Corp. Sukhi Dhesi says the death is not connected to any gang involvement.

“We are in the infancy stages of our investigation; however, the early indications suggest that Mr. Colivas’ death is not associated to the Lower Mainland gang conflict,” says Dhesi. “These are complex files.”

Police are looking to speak with friends and family of Colivas to build a timeline of his activities in the days leading up to his death.

A nearby neighbour who has lived in the community for more than three decades says the incident comes as a surprise.

“It’s been a quiet family neighbourhood, we have good neighbours. We’ve never had any problems here,” he tells Glacier Media.

When asked if he knew the people living in the house police were called to, he said no.

Anyone with information about what transpired is being asked to contact the IHIT information line at 1-877-551-4448. Police are looking for footage or images between 9:30 p.m. and 11 p.m. on Monday.
