Marpole gets misting station thanks to community group (VIDEO)

There were growing calls for one following June's deadly heat wave. 🚰

Marpole residents can beat the heat a little better, thanks to a local grassroots community group.

A new misting station was installed by the City of Vancouver at the end of July, with help from the Marpole Mutual Aid Network.

The station is located outside the Marpole Neighbourhood House on West 70th Ave. and Hudson St. It includes a misting spray and faucet for potable water.

There were growing calls for a misting station in the Marpole neighbourhood following Metro Vancouver's intense heat wave at the end of June.

The network's Amal Rana says people living in the area are particularly vulnerable to high temperatures.

"Marpole, south of 70th, is full of really older buildings, often four-storey walk-ups, no air conditioning, a lot of folks who are older, so seniors, disabled folks, other vulnerable people. We were really worried; we could hear ambulances coming and going and we were concerned about people losing their lives," explains Rana.

A heat warning is once again in effect for the B.C. south coast later this week.
