Vancouver's own Ryan Reynolds has been tapped to do the voiceover for Great Bear Rainforest, a documentary from director Ian McAllister. The film hits IMAX theatres on Feb. 15, 2019 under the umbrella of Spirit Bear Entertainment, a Parksville-based film production company.

In B.C., both Science World in Vancouver and IMAX Victoria will be showing the film.

McAllister, who was raised on Vancouver Island and attended the University of Victoria, spent three years making the documentary about the remote area near Bella Coola.

He’s executive director of the Pacific Wild Alliance, a non-profit society dedicated to preserving and protecting the wildlife of Canada’s Pacific coast. For their efforts, McAllister and his wife, Karen McAllister, were named to Time magazine’s Leaders of the 21st Century list in 2010.

McAllister previously published Great Bear Wild: Dispatches From a Northern Rainforest.

Great Bear Rainforest will be accompanied by a book written by McAllister and Victoria author Alex Van Tol. Academy Award-winning composer Hans Zimmer has written the title theme for the project.

“I hope this film inspires the younger generation that there is hope for the future if we all work together and take care of our planet’s remaining wild places,” Reynolds said in a statement.
