Watch this local filmmaker's stunning video of the North Vancouver arson fire (VIDEO)

"I had the camera and I saw the opportunity."

When filmmaker Jesse Blaskovits noticed a fire in his neighbourhood, he did what most directors would - he grabbed his camera and made a video.

The North Vancouver resident lives near the scene of Tuesday's arson attack, which destroyed the Capilano Lodge Masonic Centre and several other surrounding businesses. The blaze was one of three started the same day, including another at the Lynn Valley Masonic Lodge.

As crews began assessing the damage on Lonsdale Avenue Thursday, Blaskovits recounted that hectic morning.

"I could see the smoke from my balcony. I pretty much just went out onto the street and started capturing on my cell phone and that's when I said, oh my professional camera's at home, so I should go back and grab the camera."

Blaskovits also shared his video with the City of North Vancouver Fire Department, in hopes of underscoring the dangerous and difficult job firefighters frequently face.

"I saw it as an opportunity to capture it and do my part because now people can see this and they can see their effort," explains the videographer.
