The Metro Vancouver weather forecast includes plenty of above-average temperatures over the Labour Day long weekend.
Environment Canada Meteorologist Matt Loney says the holiday weekend includes mostly hot and dry conditions, continuing a trend that has been in place for over 10 days. However, some showers may emerge on Sunday, Aug. 31.
"An upper ridge has been in place for the last week and will remain in control, but an upper low off the coast will make an approach and be closest on Sunday," he explains.
The upper low will bring a 30 per cent chance of showers on Sunday, along with some cloud cover and the potential for thunderstorms, added Loney.
Metro Vancouver weather forecast includes above-average heat
The seasonal average high for this time of year is 20 C, and temperatures will remain elevated at around 23 C to 24 C.
Overnight lows are also expected to rise above the seasonal average of 12 C, with temperatures of 15 C to 17 C expected.
Loney advises practicing heat-smart behaviours. Locals should slow down, drink water, and stay cool. If possible, stay in an air-conditioned space or in the shade as much as possible
Travellers headed outside of Metro Vancouver for the long weekend should monitor weather forecasts for their destinations, as the rest of the province is also expected to experience above-average temperatures.
