'It's just mediocre': Metro Vancouver forecast shows cooling trend, potential light showers

Some light showers are expected, but when they'll arrive is uncertain

Vancouver's forecast includes sun and cloud.

Early July is going to be mild in Vancouver, with lots of sun, but clouds and potentially a few showers as well.

A ridge of high pressure and an upper low will be moving east, says Environment Canada meteorologist Gary Lee, which means the recent above-average temperatures will be moving on from Metro Vancouver as well.

"These two features are slowly moving eastwards, so we're looking at a slow cooling trend," he tells V.I.A.

That said, no severe weather is in the forecast.

"It's just mediocre with a weak system," says Lee.

Wednesday, July 2, will be a bit cooler than Canada Day, Lee says, with highs expected around 23 C on the shore and warmer inland.

It'll be sunny to start off, but as the ridge of high pressure moves off, clouds will move in and Wednesday night could see some light showers in Metro Vancouver. Lee says there's a 30 per cent chance.

"It's going to be scattered with some damp spots. It's a weakening system," says Lee.

That pattern will continue into Thursday morning, Lee says, with a high of around 20 C expected and a mix of sun and cloud. The clouds and potential showers will move on Thursday afternoon.

Friday is predicted to start off cooler, but there's some uncertainty with the forecast, Lee says.

"Friday clouds over again with a disturbance forming right over us," he explains.

That disturbance and the unpredictability of the weak system mean it's uncertain when and where showers will arrive in Metro Vancouver, or if they'll even make it.

"It's a very weak system; [the precipitation] may not reach the ground," Lee adds.

For the weekend, that uncertainty continues, Lee says, though no severe weather is expected. Showers appear likely for Saturday and not for Sunday, but that could change.
