The Stanley Park seawall was closed due to impacts from an atmospheric river and the Vancouver weather forecast includes rain again on October 26, 2024.

The Stanley Park seawall remains closed to the public following a powerful wind and rain storm last weekend.

A spokesperson for the Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation told V.I.A. that crews have completed cleaning up debris from the atmospheric river's impacts, including tree branches broken off from gusting wind and flooding.

The park board initiated the closures on Oct. 18 at 5 p.m. in "anticipation of high winds and heavy rain."

However, the section of Third Beach and Prospect Point remains closed on Thursday (Oct. 24) to accommodate work installing new safety barriers.

The Park Board anticipates the work will be completed by Friday afternoon and the seawall will fully reopen.

Stanley Park visitors should check the Park Board's social media channels for updates on the evolving situation.

The Vancouver weather forecast includes more rain over the weekend but another atmospheric river isn't expected. V.I.A.'s Downtown Centre Weatherhood station shows sunshine on Thursday and a 46 per cent chance of showers on Friday. Saturday and Sunday are expected to receive 20 and 36 mm of rainfall, respectively.

Locals can check an online map of the closures for more information.
