After last week's adventure in Squamish I was looking for something a little closer to home for this week's UNPLUGGED: excursion. Luckily, there is no shortage of trails to choose from when living in Vancouver.

After visiting my usual web haunts in search of a destination I came across what looked like the perfect place. Only 20 minutes from my home, Jug Island Beach Trail is a moderate two hour round trip hike across a wooded peninsula with slow a 90 meter elevation gain and one hell of a beautiful destination point in Jug Island Beach itself.

The Trail Head.
The ascent...
Some trail-side tree-shrooms.
This little lake can be found at roughly the midway point.
One sure-fire sign that Spring is upon us (as well as the bears) are these Salmon berries.
Just prior to reaching the viewpoint overlooking Bedwell Bay the stairs begin.
And the aforementioned viewpoint overlooking Bedwell Bay.
After a rapid decent to the seaside you arrive at Jug Island beach.
A fantastic and serene place to plop down and eat your lunch, which I did.

But you had better get there early or the kayakers and might beat you to it.

As I said last week, please feel free to drop me a comment below or fire off an email to [email protected] with any suggestions for places to visit, comments about these posts or whatever else you might you like to say (within reason and sticking to the VIA commenting policy of course).

Until next time...Happy Trails!
