If you’re interested in music here’s what you should be watching at 7:00 PM this Saturday on CBC TV:
It’s a documentary on Vancouver band, Said The Whale, and their journey to making it big in the States. Here’s the official word:
When SAID THE WHALE embarked on their first tour in the U.S. earlier this year (with a CBC camera crew in tow), they had no idea they’d be robbed of over $8,000 in gear and personal belongings on their fourth day. Nor did they expect that at the end of that two-week tour they’d leave the Toronto hosted 2011 JUNO Awards, as winners of New Group Of The Year.
The CBC produced documentary, Winning America tracks Said the Whale’s foray into the U.S., focusing on their gigs at the SXSW music festival. It’s packed with the surprising lows and highs that became reality over that time for this incredibly hard working and dedicated quintet. Winning America airs on CBC TV provincially in BC on Saturday July 23, at 7:00 pm PST. Viewers outside of BC can email email@example.com and request the doc be aired in their region. The documentary was produced by Jon Siddall (CBC Radio2) and Brent Hodge (CBC Radio3) and was directed by Brent Hodge and Thomas Buchan (Hope, National Film Board). Winning America will be posted to Radio3’s website, at a future date to be confirmed.
