The Village on False Creek Welcome to In The Village on False Creek, a unique project inspired by Live@YVR and 365 Days of Dining. I've moved my family into this community with my mission being to showcase the myriad of things that make it awesome by bringing you a weekly scoop!

It's with great joy that I deliver to you the news that the new Urban Fare in The Village on False Creek will be open as of 5PM TODAY! It's been all the buzz since we moved in just a month ago; a big topic of conversation amongst the neighbours has been the rumoured opening date and last week when hundreds of us received Urban Fare gift bags on our doorsteps, with the notice that they were opening this weekend, I'm pretty sure I heard a collective HOORAY! One of the final pieces of the retail puzzle, this opening is seriously going to enrich the quality of our lives as we won't have to get in our cars, or on our bikes, or the train, to get groceries. Our place is actually directly above the store which is located across from the Salt Building at 1688 Salt Street. There's parking in the back on Walter Hardwick Drive and even if you don't live in the Village this is totally your new grocery store.

It's called Urban Fare Express as the square footage of the place is smaller than their other locations but rest assured they have designed the store to hold all of the best gourmet fare that they've become known for as well as a ton of every day staples at surprisingly low prices. Seriously. Oh, and free Wifi.

I don't even know where to begin with this, there's just so much awesome. How about a closeup of a sampling of their flowershop offerings?

So much bulk goodness.

Many staples, at great low prices. I checked.

Many prepared meals which you'd be advised to enjoy while seated with a friend at one of the 50 seats in the indoor/outdoor lounge. Not pictured is the deli where they make up chicken, soups, etc that aren't packaged up and are fresh to your plate. Oh, and a coffeebar of course.

This is a piece of lighting above on of the seating areas, made from antique mason jars.

Here are a few of the options for you to park yourself, eat, drink, and/or wifi it up. Oh, and did I mention that they're licensed? Yes, people: drinks!

And of course there's a large offering of fruits and veggies, many local and organic.

The bakery wasn't fully ready to be photographed when I arrived, but here are some of the sweets they had on display.

And cheeses. Many cheeses.

This is about 1/3 of the freezer space that's reserved for novelties/ice cream etc. This is the point where they completely won me over personally.

And on to the checkout, with a pretty deep selection of magazines

Lastly, aside from having an incredible grocery store, coffeebar, restaurant and lounge directly below the unit I live in (yes, we are in the same building as Urban Fare, but on a higher floor!), there is one really cool piece of the building I'd like to share with you. It's not the fact that the building is certified LEED Platinum, net zero, and that the waste energy from this new grocery store will be distributed to the rest of the building - my unit included - as a way of upcycling energy. No, I'll tell you more about that story at a later date. What I really want to tell you about today is that there's an incredible piece of Vancouver's history built directly into the middle of Urban Fare on False Creek. It's a brick archway constructed of reclaimed materials from the legendary Pantages Theatre, and you really have to see it yourself. Here's some detail. Whoa.

Come down and see all of this and more. This new grocery shopping experience is seriously next level. HOORAY!
