La Vida Local: Twice on Sundays

In a back room in the heart of Chinatown is ramen so good, they have to serve it twice. Twice On Sundays is a pop-up noodle bar by a talented duo, Rhemo and Patrick. They’ve taken their love for ramen and “other snacky stuff that goes great with it” and offered a unique and memorable dining experience. I was first tipped off by email from VIA reader, Sara, who recommended the spot. I took a quick glance at their site and made reservations for their first seating the upcoming Sunday at 5:30pm.  A day later I received an email confirmation, address, and a phone number to contact once we arrived.

Let me take you on a journey of one of the most delicious meals I’ve ever had.

The group of six of us were greeted by Patrick, who led us into a back room with a communal table with already a few people seated. The duo prepared the courses in the kitchen corner so everything was as fresh as could be. The meal consisted of three courses that perfectly complimented one another and grew in size and taste. Sometimes I find it difficult to put into words what my taste buds tell me, so I hope the photos and ingredients will more so speak for themselves and get you salivating.

I wanted to make special note of my friend’s ramen shirt, appropriately worn for the occasion.

And then the ramen came.

Everything in that bowl worked in perfect synchronicity. I’ve casually dined at ramen spots and attempted to make it at home and I didn’t realize the potential of just how good it could be. I never wanted the bites of pork belly to end. The fusion of flavours with each bite was incredible.

We ate, laughed, and filled our bellies. Sincere thank you goes out to Patrick and Rhemo for a tasty and warming experience. I’m already checking my schedule to see when I’ll be coming again.
