Together, let’s launch MOV's long-awaited First Nations gallery

The Museum of Vancouver's success is only made possible because generous people in our community care about protecting and preserving a special place for all of us to connect through Vancouver’s history and our shared future.

In January 2015, MOV will launch c??sna??m: The City Before The City. It will occupy a prominent place in the institution – as the introduction to the Vancouver history galleries.

This gallery will make public the significance of c??sna??m, an ancient Musqueam village and burial ground on the North Arm of the Fraser River. c??sna??m is one of North America’s largest pre-contact villages on the Pacific coast of Canada. It has been a major site of archaeological research for the past 120 years, resulting in several national and international museums excavating and acquiring artefacts for their collections. The Museum of Vancouver has one of the most important collections of material culture associated with c??sna??m in the world.

Our city’s origin is a story that all Vancouverites need to hear.  The only way we can tell this critical piece of Vancouver’s history is through the support of donors like you. Please join with others in the community in making a (one-time or monthly) donation via CanadaHelps to help support our desire to bring stories like c??sna??m from the deep past, to the present day.
