|Vancouver Is Awesome is a proud sponsor of thisopenspace.ca, an online platform for booking unique spaces for pop-up shops, exhibits, and events.
They’ve hosted hundreds of pop-up concepts in Vancouver neighbourhoods since September 2012. Every time a new pop-up is about to launch @thisopenspace, you’ll catch a sneak peek here on V.I.A.!
Welcome back Kevin Kent, founder of Knifewear the renowned Canadian importer of high performance Japanese kitchen knives. Once selling precious knives out of his backpack, Kent has opened 5 permanent retail stores across Canada and he’s rocking the west coast tour to show Vancouver and Victoria what a sharp knife can be. Knifewear is set to open a Vancouver shop in 2016, but you can say you met them in their earlier days at the summer pop-up in Chinatown. A slice of the Knifewear attitude, “Cooking is rock ‘n’ roll, and we supply the leather pants of rock ‘n’ roll, which are Japanese kitchen knives” – Kevin Kent.
The motley crew of rehabilitated chefs and knife nerds are welcoming Vancouver chefs, home cooks, punk rockers and people who like nice things down to the shop to test-drive fine knives on juicy ripe tomatoes, all day for one week. The pop-up will be stocked with Canadian-made cutting boards, chef curated cookbooks, kitchen gadgets, straight razors, axes with Fujimoto knives on special, 15% off their already killer good price and rare one-of-a-kind knives.
The party kicks off Monday night with a debut screening of Springhammer the documentary which takes a look into the historical blacksmithing trade in Japan, Monday July 27, 7PM. Official opening party, Tuesday July 28, 6-9PM. Regular shop hours: Tuesday July 29 – Sunday August 2, 11AM – 7PM. Location: 434 Columbia St. in Chinatown. Don’t miss this open door to The World’s Sharpest Pop-Up. Check the facebook event for details or our site for more backstory.
