Facebook Canada launches campaign to help Canadians spot fake news

Earlier this week, MediaSmarts hosted an even in Vancouver where they launched the first video from their multi-part campaign to combat fake news.

The campaign falls under Facebook Canada’s “Election Integrity Initiative”, which aims to ensure that Facebook is “space for authentic civic engagement in the lead-up to the 2019 election.”

As part of the initiative, Facebook has teamed up with MediaSmarts, Canada’s centre for digital and media literacy. MediaSmarts will be releasing additional videos and PSAs throughout the next two years. In addition to helping Facebook users spot fake news, Facebook Canada has released a new Cyber Hygiene Guide for Canadian political parties and politicians.
