Where to go for U-Pick blueberries in Metro Vancouver

We’re going to get a bumper crop of blueberries in British Columbia this summer, and right now there are some beauties ripe for the picking. One of the best ways to get fresh blueberries in your bowl is to get out there and get them yourself, right from the source.

Blueberries are a food that really tell the story of B.C., because they are perfectly fuelled by our water and rich soil. Our blueberries are known for being some of the best in the world, and while the harvest season is just from July to September, there are a few varieties of the berry to enjoy, as well as several ways to enjoy them.

The season kicks off when the Duke blueberries are ready, followed by the Midcrops and then the Elliots. While you might not be able to eat all that you pick (or buy in a flat–we won’t tell if you skip doing the hard work), blueberries freeze really well and can easily make their way into smoothies, sauces, pies, treats, and jam all year long.

If you’re looking for a fun outing and are up for doing a little “sweat equity” for your berries, we’ve got a list of U-Pick farms in Metro Vancouver and Abbotsford. Make sure to give them a call or find the farm online first to confirm their U-Pick hours and blueberry availability. Happy picking!
