B.C. craft breweries won big at the 2018 World Beer Awards, picking up two coveted Best in the World honours, beating out more than 2,300 entries from 500 producers and 50 countries worldwide.
Parksville’s Mount Arrowsmith Brewing Company won World’s Best Golden Pale Ale for its Blonde Ale, while Partake Brewing’s Pale Ale (brewed at Craft Collective in East Vancouver) won for World’s Best Low Alcohol Pale Beer.

A number of breweries also won awards in the Canadian national competition. Revelstoke’s Mt. Begbie Brewing took the top spot in the Best Dark Strong Beer category for its Brave Liver Scotch Ale, Nanaimo’s White Sails Brewing won for its Belgian Witbier (Best Belgian-style Witbier), Stanley Park Brewing’s Daytrip won for Best International Lager and Smuggler’s Trail Caskworks (also brewed at Craft Collective) won for its Wedgehead Kolsch in the Best Pale Kolsch Beer category.

Also picking up national gold medals were Whistler Brewing Co. (Black Tusk Ale, Best Mild Dark Beer), White Sails (Snake Island CDA, Best Black IPA) and Phillips Brewing (Short Wave, Best American-Style Pale Ale). Silver medals went to Mt. Begbie (Tall Timber Ale, Best English-style Brown Ale), White Sails (Mt. Benson IPA, Best American-Style IPA), Phillips (Tiger Shark, Best Session IPA) and Stanley Park (Noble Pilsner, Best Classic Pilsner; Windstorm; Best American-Style Pale Ale), while Mount Arrowsmith won bronze for its Sea Run Saison (Best Pale Biére de Garde/Saison).
