Every day is a new chance to eat something you’ve never tried before, and thankfully Vancouver is always coming through with new restaurants – or new locations of favourite restaurants – for us to check out.

From comforting plates of pasta to steamer baskets full of dumplings, and loaded hot dogs or all-day breakfasts, there are plenty of just-opened, or soon-to-open, restaurants worth checking out.

Here are 13 new and upcoming Vancouver restaurants to put on your list.

The Greek – Gastown

Country Lamb (Lindsay William-Ross/Vancouver Is Awesome)

Everyone is family, in a way, at The Greek, thanks to the share plates style of eating, starring succulent and meltingly tender braised Country Lamb or roast chicken served in a pan with rice, potatoes, and veggies. This is the second The Greek location (the first launched in Yaletown in 2015).

Autostrada – Downtown

Cacio e pepe at Autostrada on Main, Dec. 2018 (Lindsay William-Ross/Vancouver Is Awesome)

To kick off 2018, Cinara on Pender opted to rebrand as a second outpost of their slightly more casual sibling restaurant, Autostrada. You can expect to find the same staff, as well as roster of fresh-made pastas (like the decadent double-stuffed “doppio” and the slurp-worthy cacio e pepe, among others) and antipasti like toast loaded with fresh anchovies or duck liver, wines, cocktails, and more there.

Italian Tomato

Locals swear by the epic portions of pasta sauced and served up at Italian Tomato in Richmond. They’ve been at work on their West End Vancouver outpost for several months now, and opening day should be soon.

Dalina – Broadway/Oak

Farinata with cauliflower at DALINA (Lindsay William-Ross/Vancouver Is Awesome)

Fortune Terrace – Marine Drive

Fortune Terrace in Richmond (Fortune Terrace Chinese Cuisine/Facebook)

One of Richmond’s most popular Chinese restaurants, Fortune Terrace, is expanding to Vancouver. They’ve got a brand new space in the works on Marine Drive at Cambie, right by the Canada Line. Expect more of the same high-end Cantonese-style eats and atmosphere here.

Taiwanese “large” fried chicken is a big deal. The beloved night market snack showcasing a juicy 30-cm wide fried chicken cutlet will be available soon in downtown Vancouver (and in Richmond, too!).

In addition to their Belgian chocolates, it looks like the café will feature chocolate-based patisserie-style treats, decadent chocolate drinks, and much more (much more chocolate, that is!).
