Grouse Mountain offers spectacular views of the city as well as a smorgasbord of alpine activities to enjoy on the slopes.

And while a number of these activities are popular during the day, the mountain takes on a particular magic after dark. As a result, the resort's New Moon Snowshoe Tours have became extremely popular, as they offer participants the chance to explore the frosted wilderness at night.

Snowshoe guides lead guests through the forest to their favourite spots to gaze at the night sky. What's more, the stars shine brightly during the new moon, since there is no glow from the moon to obscure their radiance. With that in mind, the experience is also offered during full moons, which offers a decidedly breathtaking perspective of the moon from the mountaintop.

The experience begins by traveling through the Top of Vancouver's awe-inspiring Light Walk. This dazzling light installation begins with a glowing light tunnel that has became an Instagram favourite, with a multitude of luminescent bulbs stretching across it. Following this, the walk continues around Blue Grouse Lake where the installations line the lake's reflective surface.

Once guests venture into the forest, however, headlamps guide their way through the mysterious terrain. With a perfect balance of city views and mountain wilderness, this snowshoe hike offers an otherworldly exploration of the frozen summit.

Snowshoes available for rent at $10 per person, or you can bring your own. Headlamps are included, and both tours include basic snowshoe instruction.
