Delta police say a body located on the shoreline of the Fraser River Friday morning is not being treated as a suspicious or criminal investigation.

Officers attended the scene around 10:30 a.m. on Aug. 16 in the 400 block of Audley Road.

Police say the BC Coroner’s Service was called to the scene and arrived at approximately 12:45 p.m.

“Upon examination an initial determination was made that the death did not appear to be suspicious,” said DPD public affairs coordinator Cris Leykauf in a press release. “Delta fire department attended the scene to assist in recovering the body.”

Leykauf said officers confirmed the identity of the deceased and reached out to Surrey RCMP in order to conduct the next of kin notification, which has now been completed. The deceased was the subject of a recent missing persons’ investigation.

The Coroner’s Service is also investigating this death and has no further information to provide.
