While it was difficult to view from Vancouver, stargazers witnessed a spectacular Northern Lights display near Squamish over the Labour Day long weekend.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) noted that a G1 (Minor) geomagnetic storm would hit B.C. on Aug. 30 while a G1 (Moderate) geomagnetic storm would hit on Sept. 1. As a result of the solar storms, people were able to view the greenish astral display in parts of B.C. over the weekend when the sky was dark.

Porteau Cove Provincial Park, located on the Sea to Sky Highway about twenty minutes from Squamish, offered an ideal place to witness the jewel-toned sky dance because it is farther away from the city’s light pollution. As such, numerous Vancouverites ventured to the popular location in order to capture the colourful celestial show.

Have a look at some of the best snaps from the weekend below.

First attempt at capturing the Aurora. Obviously, I have more work to do and need a better location with less light pollution…but I'm thrilled at the progress I've made with my old camera so far. It was so hard for me to have a desire to use the camera after my family abandoned me…but I'm finally feeling a great desire again to use it!! ?????????? This pic taken at midnight, pitch black to the naked eye. ?????????? #playdateoutside #mountainsaremyfavoritecolor #findmeoutside #greateroutdoors #chasingepicviews ? #beautifulearth #escapetheindoors #naturesoothesmysoul #addictedtofreshair #allthelovelythings #optoutside #tranquility #mentalhealthdayiseveryday #happyheart ? #soulinvigorated
