The pot just got sweeter in the case of B.C. fugitive John Norman MacKenzie.

A $50,000 reward is being offered for the arrest of the 59-year-old, who in 1982 was sentenced to life in prison after he was convicted for second-degree murder.

As of August 2018, MacKenzie was serving that sentence at the corrections facility in Mission. On Aug. 7, 2018, he went missing.

Police have determined MacKenzie escaped and is currently at large.

"The initial investigation revealed that MacKenzie was considered a 'low-key' inmate but that he was also extremely intelligent and computer savvy. MacKenzie has been known to carry fake identification documents such as driver’s licences and passports," states a news release.

RCMP believe MacKenzie may have fled Canada and is somewhere abroad.

"Despite continued efforts, he has not been located," says the release.

MacKenzie is described as:

  • Caucausian male
  • 5'8''
  • 197 lbs
  • Brown hair
  • Blue eyes

The $50,000 reward is being offered in partnership with the Bolo Program and Metro Vancouver Crime Stoppers.

Anyone with information about MacKenzie's whereabouts is asked to call their local police or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
