Safety alert: Canada-wide recall for facial product due to chemical hazard

It has a chemical hazard that is banned for skin cosmetics in Canada.

Health Canada warns that a skin cleansing product has a chemical hazard that may cause an allergic reaction or skin irritation. 

The federal department issued a recall notification on Monday, June 5, warning consumers that the White Jasmine Facial Skin Tonic sold by Spa Ceylon Canada has a chemical hazard that is banned for skin cosmetics in leave-on cosmetics in Canada. 

The recalled product contains methylisothiazolinone (MI), which is a sensitizer that "may pose a risk of inducing allergic reactions and skin irritation," according to Health Canada.

The affected products can be identified by the Batch number "2/H22" and UPC "4791097074543" located on the bottom of the box. The products have a manufacturing date of "08.2022."

As of May 16, there have been no reports of incidents or injuries related to the affected product in Canada. Sixteen packages were sold across the country from Dec. 9, 2022, until April 3, 2023.

What you should do 

Immediately stop using the recalled tonic and dispose of it according to your municipal waste requirements.
