Remarkable photos show Big White staff clearing snow from chairlift

"Still a lot of work to do."

People are at work high above the clouds at Big White de-icing one of the resort’s alpine lifts.

The ski hill shared photos Monday of the two-seater Falcon Chair encased in ice and snow. It is the only lift on the hill not yet turning this season.

On Tuesday, the resort shared additional photos updating the public on the de-icing progress, as of noon Tuesday.

It has taken three staff three hours to clear the top three towers, bullwheel and shack, Big White said on Facebook.

“Still a lot of work to do there,” the post continued. “Add to that, we need 10 to 15 cm of fresh Okanagan champagne powder for the unload station.”

Big White is now reporting a 140 cm alpine base and 116 open runs.

The public has been happy to get a behind-the-scenes look at the operation of their favourite winter playground.

“You guys are amazing. Thank you for sharing so we can be more appreciative of the behind the scenes work that needs to take place for our safety and enjoyment,” said a Facebook comment. “You guys are amazing.”
