Multiple Metro Vancouver grocery store workers test positive for COVID-19

Since the weekend there have been about 40 cases reported at Lower Mainland stores

Nearly a dozen workers at the Real Canadian Superstore across several different Lower Mainland locations have tested positive for the coronavirus (COVID-19).

Loblaw Companies Ltd, the parent company of Real Canadian Superstore and Shoppers Drug Mart provided updates to its COVID-19 employee case listings on Dec. 22 and 23. Employees at the following Real Canadian Superstore locations in Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley have tested positive for the virus in the last few days:

  • 4700 Kingsway, Burnaby, B.C.: Team member tested positive on a presumptive test for COVID-19. The last day the team member worked was on Dec.13.    
  • 14650 104th Ave., Surrey, B.C.: Team member tested positive on a presumptive test for COVID-19. The last day the team member worked was on Dec. 19.  
  • Peter's Your Independent Grocer, 1835 Gordon Drive, Kelowna B.C.: Two team members tested positive on a presumptive test for COVID-19. The last day the team members worked was on Dec. 10 and Dec. 20.    
  • 2855 Gladwin Road, Abbotsford, B.C.: Three team members tested positive on a presumptive test for COVID-19. The last day the team members worked was on Dec. 12, Dec. 13 and Dec. 15.     
  • 3000 Lougheed Hwy, Coquitlam, B.C.: Two team members tested positive on a presumptive test for COVID-19. The last day the team members worked was on Dec.12 and Dec.18.    
  • 2280 Baron Road, Kelowna, BC: Two team members tested positive on a presumptive test for COVID-19. The last day the team members worked was on Dec. 10 and Dec. 15.    

T&T, which is owned by Loblaw, also posts employee COVID-19 test positive cases on a public webpage. The Asian grocery giant has not had any recent store worker cases in British Columbia following a single case reported by the company Dec. 14 at its Lansdowne mall location in Richmond, involving an employee who last worked Dec. 8.

Coronavirus in Metro Vancouver grocery stores 

Earlier this week, Sobeys, Inc, the parent company of Safeway and Thrifty Foods, indicated on its case tracker several newly-confirmed store associate COVID-19 cases at locations across British Columbia, including several in the Lower Mainland.
The following company-owned and franchised stores in Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley are included on the list:

  • Safeway: 8671 No 1 Road Richmond. The last day the team member worked was on Dec. 15
  • Safeway: 8475 Granville Street, Vancouver. The last day the team member worked was on Dec. 12
  • Safeway: 6153 – 200th Street, Langley. The last day the team member worked was on Dec. 15.
  • FreshCo: Unit 100 32500 South Fraser Way, Abbotsford. The last day the team member worked was on Dec. 10

Additionally, Sobeys confirms store employee cases at two Safeway locations elsewhere in B.C. In Interior Health, a store worker in Kelowna (697 Bernard Avenue) has tested positive and last worked Dec. 13, while in the Northern Health region a team member at the store in Smithers (3664 Highway 16) has tested positive and last worked Dec. 14.
