Several grocery store workers at major chains across Metro Vancouver test positive for COVID-19

Newly-reported COVID-19 cases reflect affected workers from stores in the Lower Mainland in Vancouver, Delta, Langley, and Richmond.

Workers at major grocery stores like Real Canadian Superstore and Safeway across Metro Vancouver and throughout the province have tested positive for the coronavirus (COVID-19) over the last few days.

Newly-reported cases reflect affected workers from stores in the Lower Mainland in Vancouver, Delta, Langley, and Richmond. Additional cases have been listed elsewhere in the province in the Fraser Valley and in the Interior region.

Loblaw Companies Ltd, the parent company of Real Canadian Superstore and Shoppers Drug Mart provided updates to its COVID-19 employee case listings on Dec. 19, 20, and 21.

Employees at the following Shoppers Drug Mart store locations in Metro Vancouver have tested positive for the virus:

  • Shoppers Drug Mart, 586 Granville Street, Vancouver: The last day the team member worked was on Dec. 16.
  • Shoppers Drug Mart, 5555 Gilbert Road, Richmond: The last day the team member worked was on Dec.14.   
  • Shoppers Drug Mart, 6060 Minoru Blvd, Richmond: Two team members tested positive for COVID-19. The last day each of the team members worked was on Dec. 9 and Dec. 12.  
  • Shoppers Drug Mart, 20151 Fraser Hwy, Langley: The last day the team member worked was on Dec. 17

Elsewhere in B.C., a Shoppers Drug Mart team member in Oliver (5955 Main Street) has tested positive, and last worked Dec. 12.

Employees at the following Real Canadian Superstore locations in Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valler have tested positive for the virus in the last few days:

  • Real Canadian Superstore, 8195 120th Street, Delta: Two team members tested positive for COVID-19. The last day each of the team members worked was on Dec. 12 and Dec. 16.   
  • Real Canadian Superstore, 2855 Gladwin Road, Abbotsford: Two team members tested positive for COVID-19. The last day each of the team members worked was on Dec. 12 and Dec. 13.    
  • Real Canadian Superstore, 350 S.E. Marine Drive, Vancouver: The last day the team member worked was on Dec. 12.
  • Real Canadian Superstore, 3185 Grandview Highway, Vancouver: The last day the team member worked was on Dec. 12.

Sobeys, Inc, the parent company of Safeway and franchise has indicated on its case tracker several newly-confirmed store associate COVID-19 cases at locations across British Columbia, including several in the Lower Mainland.

The following company-owned and franchised stores in Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley are included on the list:

  • Safeway: 8671 No 1 Road Richmond. The last day the team member worked was on Dec. 15
  • Safeway: 8475 Granville Street, Vancouver. The last day the team member worked was on Dec. 12
  • Safeway: 6153 – 200th Street, Langley. The last day the team member worked was on Dec. 15.
  • FreshCo: Unit 100 32500 South Fraser Way, Abbotsford. The last day the team member worked was on Dec. 10

Additionally, Sobeys confirms store employee cases at two Safeway locations elsewhere in B.C. In Interior Health, a store worker in Kelowna (697 Bernard Avenue) has tested positive and last worked Dec. 13, while in the Northern Health region a team member at the store in Smithers (3664 Highway 16) has tested positive and last worked Dec. 14. 

The other major grocery chain operating in B.C. that posts store employee COVID-19 test positive cases on a public webpage is T & T, which is owned by Loblaw. The Asian grocery giant has not had any recent store worker cases in British Columbia following a single case reported by the company Dec. 14 at its Lansdowne mall location in Richmond, involving an employee who last worked Dec. 8.
