Inspired by the American band Hanson, friends Kaytee Muir and Allison Seidel have organized a barefoot mile-long charity walk for shoes Aug. 26. For every person who walks a barefoot mile, Hanson will donate $1 to provide shoes to those in need in places such as Africa and South America. The musical brothers behind Hanson lead walks before each concert and the walks also support drilling water wells, building schools, AIDS research and treatment and access to medical care. Muir and Seidel chose shoes because they've seen the effects a first pair of shoes has on a child that has barely anything else. The Vancouver walk starts at 7 p.m. at the Inukshuk statue in English Bay and will continue to Stanley Park. For more information, see takethewalk.net or search for the "Take the Walk for Shoes in Vancouver" Facebook page.
