Betrayal, death, eliminations and unlikely alliances — no, it’s not just another day at the office.
Vancouver Theatre-Sports League is presenting its take on the wildly successful TV series Game of Thrones, based on George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire.
Throne and Games is an elimination comedy improv created by league veteran performer Graeme Duffy. During each show, three improv “families” (teams of VTSL performers putting their spin on Game of Thrones characters) will descend on the Iron Throne of Games and attempt to claim it for their own. Each team will do their best to oust their competitors in a series of classic improv games customized to each family. At the end of the show, only one character will remain to rule the kingdom.
Each night, the audience will play a supporting role by providing suggestions to advance the onstage action. For Throne and Games, the audience will be referred to as “The Old Gods” and “The New,” and will also decide which characters are eliminated.
Throne and Games runs April 9 to May 30 at the Improv Centre, 1502 Duranleau St., Granville Island. For more information, visit vtsl.com.
