Is it just me, or have the days between Labour Day, Thanksgiving, Halloween and Christmas truly become a blur? Just weeks ago I was including summer events in this column, but the emails I'm receiving now are all about Halloween and Christmas.

and Christmas truly become a blur? Just weeks ago I was including summer events in this column, but the emails I'm receiving now are all about Halloween and Christmas. Even Thanksgiving seems so last weekend. My advice? Get out that costume and hang some tinsel or the next thing you know it will be Valentine's Day.

Is [insert cute dog nickname here] ready for their closeup? Fido is hosting a casting call in search of an adorable dog to appear in an ad for the wireless carrier. This Saturday, Oct. 15, a team from Fido will be in and around Cooper's Park in Yaletown from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. checking out prime time-ready pooches. All dogs that show up will receive a free portrait taken by a professional Fido photographer. The event is also an opportunity to meet real canine heroes from Dog Guides Canada. I'm assuming that besides a professional photographer, the Fido team will also include a professional pooper-scooper.

The seventh annual Night for All Souls celebration takes place at Mountain View Cemetery Oct. 29, but there are several workshops being held leading up to the big event. The Night for All Souls is an event to honour the dead through ceremony and celebration, and maintaining family graves by cleaning and decorating plots and offering feasts, flowers, lanterns and candles. An orientation session takes place Oct. 20 at 7 p.m. at the cemetery, located on Fraser Street at East 33rd Avenue, where participants can take part in creating flower garlands or just find out what's planned for the Night of All Souls. Following that session, at 8 p.m. participants can learn about creating personal shrines and memorials with artist Marina Szijarto. No registration is necessary for either session. An Oct. 22 session ramps things up a little with the popular sugar skull workshop. The workshop takes place from 1 to 4 p.m. and fills up quickly, so register soon and before noon Oct. 20. Cost for materials is $5. On Oct. 23 from 1 to 4 p.m. participants will learn how to create illuminated memorials. Those attending the workshop are asked to bring photographs, letters, cards, text and other mementos that can be photocopied for use in ephemeral, candle lit memorials. The cost for materials is $5. Registration closes Oct. 20 at noon. To register for the Oct. 22 or 23 sessions, call 6043252646 or email mountain. [email protected].
