The Museum of Vancouver is offering an opportunity to marvel at the families we choose, rather than the families were born into. Im lucky enough to like my family, but I have many friends whose families are experts at putting the fun in dysfunctional. MOV celebrates the concept of family in this new community-based art project Chosen Family Portraits, commissioned and executed during the 2010 Vancouver Queer Film Festival. The exhibit features film festival audience members modeling their chosen family and sharing their unique stories. For more information go to museumofvancouver.ca/exhibitions.

Now this sounds like a fun event. The first ever Kidney Market Fair takes place Aug. 13 at Shannon Station, located at the corner of West 57th Avenue and West Boulevard. Initially the name had me concerned and I had visions of ice cube-filled bathtubs, but after reading more about the event came to realize its not really a kidney market, but instead is a fun fair for the whole family offering food, music, a silent auctionwith autographed Canucks stickschildrens entertainment, a bouncy castle and more, organized by the Kidney Foundation B.C. Branch. The event is also an opportunity for the foundation to raise awareness about organ donation, so in fact there is a chance it will one day get your kidney. The fair takes place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
