According to show director David Tyldesley, Interior Design Show West is a “sophisticated celebration of contemporary interior design, blending hundreds of world-class exhibits, collaborative features and presentations by your favourite design icons.”
One company taking part in the show that’s created quite a buzz in since it opened in Gastown is family-owned, carbon-neutral Montauk Sofa. Prior to opening at 228 Abbott St. in 2011, the 6,000-square-foot space underwent an intensive, two-year heritage renovation.
Montauk owner Danny Chartier has caught the attention of design lovers for not only the innovative styles he offers for sale, but also for the measures he’s taken to minimize the business’ carbon footprint in everything from manufacturing to distribution and sales, including staff travel. That makes Montauk an ideal fit for Interior Design Show West, which is about more than the latest furniture.
To that end, besides several fabulous parties, the event includes a speaker series covering everything from the Evolution of Design to a youthful twist on collecting and living with antiques.
There are also many businesses and companies, both large and small, showcasing sustainable and environmentally friendly products at the show. A team of registered interior designers will also be on hand to answer design dilemmas through free 10-minute consultations. The show offers information, demonstrations and examples on everything from state-of-the-art appliances to flooring, furniture, fashion, lighting, bathrooms, art, fabrics, cufflinks and more.
