Arbutus Ridge
The women of the St. George’s Philoptochos Association have been busy baking Christmas goodies so you don’t have to. And the list of those goodies is impressive with offerings such as spanakopites (with spinach, feta cheese and onions), tiropites (phyllo cheese triangles), kourambiedes (butterball cookies), baklava (phyllo pastry with chopped nuts and honey), melomakarona (soft cookies dipped in honey), kataifi (shredded pastry stuffed with more nuts and honey), cakes, cookies, bread and many more delicious treats to choose from.

Also available by pre-order are Golden Christmas Tsoureki Wreaths, made from braided bread and selling for $8 each by calling 604-263-3663, 604-736-4096 or 604-421-4556. The sale takes place Nov. 24 at the Hellenic Community Centre of Vancouver, 4500 Arbutus St., from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Fairview
Girlgig Productions is holding its annual Chicks With Picks XMISS Party benefitting the Positive Women’s Network, Dec. 1 at the Fairview Pub, 898 West Broadway.

Girlgig Productions developed the monthly series dubbed “Chicks With Picks,” to allow local, independent and national female artists an opportunity to showcase their songs at the legendary Railway Club. For some, it’s their first time performing and for others it’s a stop over during a tour.

The special guest hosts for the Chicks With Picks XMISS Party are Marlee Walchuk and Natalie Callender from SUGARBEACH, while the lineup includes Led Zep tribute act Zeppelina, Chris Derksen, the Boomchix, Rona Goodman, Julie Turtle, Daisy Blue Groff, Eirene Cloma, Lisa Lambert, Rachel Davis, Vicky Sjohall, Jane Sawyer, Rae Armour, Siobhan Duvall, guests and friends. Doors open at 5 p.m. and admission is by a suggested $10 donation accompanied by a non-perishable food or toiletry item.

Admission to the craft fair is free and the Holly Tea tasting menu is $7. All proceeds benefit seniors programs at the neighbourhood house. It’s time to show off that Movember moustache and maybe a few skate moves.
