She once called herself a "career-obsessed, overweight, Tums-eating workaholic." Now Leigh Pate, an independent public affairs consultant, is an adventurer, athlete and philanthropist. Pate will tell the tale of her most recent over-land excursion: a 4,000-kilometre bicycle ride through India. She will discuss the cultures and languages, the people, and what she learned along the route from the threshold of the Taj Mahal to the southern tip of the sub-continent. 7 to 9 p.m. July 7 at SFU Woodward's Djavad Mowafaghian Cinema (149 West Hastings). $20. All proceeds support Room To Read, a charitable organization that focuses on literacy and gender equality. For more information, visit roomtoread.org/cycleindia.
