The City of Vancouver continues its emergency preparedness workshops, with the next one scheduled for Oct. 2 at the Sunset Community Centre, 6810 Main St. It begins at 7 p.m. Contact the community centre at 604-718-6505 to register. Billed as "Be prepared, not scared," the workshop will teach participants how to prepare for any emergency or disaster such as an earthquake. You'll learn personal and family preparedness, how to develop a family emergency plan, how to perform a "home hazard hunt" and how to prepare for your pets. Participation is free. The city will hold separate sessions for groups of 15 people or more. If interested, fill out a form available on the city's website. The next session is Oct. 6 at the Roundhouse Community Centre. Sessions run into the early part of November. Go to vancouver.ca for more information.
